The event was great success and the children had lots of fun taking part. We have raised £650 which is going towards the completion of the paths in the Discovery area. This will enable our Discovery Area to become the first fully wheelchair accessible woodland in Dorset. Thank you all for your participation, effort, enthusiasm and sponsorship.

]]> On Tuesday 30th June, the whole school took part in a sponsored obstacle course organised by the School’s Eco-Committee. The event was great success and the children had lots of fun taking part.

We have raised £650 which is going towards the completion of the paths in the Discovery area. This will enable our Discovery Area to become the first fully wheelchair accessible woodland in Dorset. Thank you all for your participation, effort, enthusiasm and sponsorship.

]]> Forest School! https://thorners.school/forest-school/ Thu, 18 Jun 2026 09:33:00 +0000 https://thorners.school/?p=1970 Thanks to Rachel and her brilliant team of helpers – the children have been getting stuck in to a range of Forest School activities from lighting fires and cooking to den building, rope and knot work as well as plant identification and art.  The children love these sessions and it is wonderful to see their skills and knowledge grow as they progress up through the school each year!

]]> Windsurfing https://thorners.school/windsurfing/ Thu, 18 Jun 2026 09:08:54 +0000 https://thorners.school/?p=1965 We had a visit from Windsurfers from OTC Portland recently and the children were dazzled by both the incredible footage shown of the elite windsurfers inaction and also the chance to see their equipment rigged up in the hall.  Eggardon children were then treated to a taster session of windsurfing at Portland with instructors after their SATs!

]]> Chesil Celebration Assembly https://thorners.school/chesil-celebration-assembly/ Tue, 16 Jun 2026 07:39:06 +0000 https://thorners.school/?p=1918 Parents were invited to join our Friday morning school assembly to share the achievements of children in Chesil class. A selection of children read poems based on a ‘Dragon Bus’, and showed their animal creations and clay snails. The class sang ‘Your Imagination!’, a song they have learnt during music lessons. Each child was presented with a certificate after completing our phonics and reading challenge, well done to them all!!

]]> Autumn Arrives https://thorners.school/autumn-arrives/ Thu, 15 Jan 2026 11:18:19 +0000 https://thorners.school/?p=1433 Autumn is upon us and the children performed a wonderful series of poems, songs and readings for our Harvest Festival celebration.  We also juiced the remaining apples from our Discovery Area. Litton were very confident in telling us all about how their red combine harvester worked and how they made it out of boxes and wheels, whilst Chesil performed Cauliflowers Fluffy for the parents.  Bredy wrote some wonderful acrostic poems and Eggardon spoke about food banks and the vital work they do in our community.  Thank you to all the parents for their contributions to our food bank collection – a wonderful effort. On the sports field the children have been doing Archery and Football on Mondays and Chesil have been creating a wonderful range of fruit snacks and smoothies as part of their DT topic this term.  Litton have been on a trip to Bridport and also had 3 visitors in to visit (a Police Officer, a Cook and a Doctor) them as they explore their Me and My Community Topic.  Lastly, Bredy have been studying the Romans Empire and Eggardon have been researching our National Parks and their purpose and uses.
